Tip:  Resident Mary asks a staff member to call a taxi to take her to her daughter’s home. Your staff member feels that Mary may not be able to make the trip safely if unescorted. Do you have a written policy in place in your facility that addresses what actions your staff will take if a resident expresses the desire to leave the facility and you or your staff feel may not be capable of doing so safely? It is very important that your staff know how to intervene if this situation arises. The following link will take you to a sample policy which you may customize, implement, and use to train your staff. Remember, this is only a sample to assist you in preparing your facility specific policy.
