Texas AL Communities Prepare for Hurricane Ike, Expected to Make Landfall This Weekend

Below is a press release from ALFA (Assisted Living Federation of America) about Hurricane Ike:

September 12, 2008, ALEXANDRIA, VA-Assisted living residents along the Texas Gulf Coast, as well as parts of Florida and Louisiana, are being evacuated from their communities to safety as Hurricane Ike approaches landfall this weekend.

ALFA is working closely with its state affiliates and chapters to ensure assisted living communities that may be in harm’s way have the support, information, and communication resources they need to plan for resident evacuations and other emergency measures.

Texas providers in need of assistance should contact Teresa Shook, ALFA Texas Chapter board member, at 817.475.0409. Other providers in need of assistance should contact the appropriate ALFA state affiliate or chapter. If you are unable to contact a state affiliate or chapter, please contact ALFA’s Paul Williams at 410.900.5100.

Many communities are using ALFA’s Disaster Planning Guide & Tool Kit as part of their emergency actions. The Tool Kit features must-have resources, check lists, tips, and strategies for keeping residents safe when disasters hit. It is available to ALFA members at no charge and they can download it from ALFA.
