A Healthy Plate
Posted on June 7th, 2011 by Josh Allen, RN, C-AL
The USDA has released a new icon for U.S. Dietary Guidlines. The new “My Plate” replaces the 19-year-old food pyramid and features four sections- red for fruit, green for vegetables, orange for grains, and purple for protein–with a separate blue “glass” for dairy alongside the plate. The new graphic is intended to remind Americans to make better food choices by prompting them to build a healthier plate at meal times.
