We do not normally address medication recalls in our Tuesday Tips, but because Albuterol is commonly used by assisted living and residential care residents we felt it was appropriate to bring this to everyone’s attention.
On January 3, 2011 the FDA announced that “Ritedose Corporation is conducting a voluntary recall of 0.083% Albuterol Sulfate Inhalation Solution, 3 mL in 25, 30, and 60 unit dose vials.” The unit dose vials are being recalled due to a labeling error that “represents a potential significant health hazard.”
This product is a prescription inhalation solution, administered via nebulizer. If any of your residents have the product it should be immediately returned to where it was obtained (i.e. your pharmacy). Contact your pharmacist and/or the resident’s physician if you have any questions or concerns.
