Community Care Licensing provided several important policy updates and clarifications during last week’s CALA Spring Conference, including one regarding the use of oral syringes. For some time there has been a lack of consistent interpretation from LPAs in the field regarding whether or not trained unlicensed staff members may use an oral syringe to draw up and measure liquid oral medications. However, as you know, using oral syringe is an accurate and easy way to measure liquid oral medications.
During the CALA conference senior CCL staff gave us some good news on this issue. The answer is yes, your trained staff may draw up and measure liquid oral medications using an oral syringe.
