A Tuesday Tip subscriber emailed us recently asking what the minimum night time staffing requirement is in an RCFE. So we thought it would be helpful to share our answer with you.
The requirements are listed in regulation 87415 based on the size of the community. According to the regulation, night supervision is from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am and shall include the following staff:
- Less than 16 residents: A qualified person on call on the premises.
- 16 to 100 residents: At least one employee shall be on duty on the premises, and awake. Another employee shall be on call, and capable of responding within ten minutes.
- 100 to 200 residents: One employee shall be on call, on the premises; one employee shall be on duty on the premises and awake; and one employee shall be on call and capable of responding within ten minutes
- For every additional 100 residents or fraction thereof: One additional staff person on duty, on the premises and awake.
We must emphasize that these are the minimum staffing requirements. You should always have staff sufficient in number, training, and qualifications to meet the needs of your residents.
